It's a vegetble! It's a fruit! It's a berry?

Bite This: There are more than 80 varieties of avocados. The avocado is nicknamed the "alligator pear" because of its green color and texture of the Haas variety.

Another food that I am loving lately (and have always loved) is the avocado. Many people often times shy away from the avocado because it is high in fat. Which is true, but the type of fat called monounsaturated fat, has many health benefits. Unsaturated fats are anti-inflammatory and help reduce many heart disease risk factors, which I may have mentioned a time or two or three or maybe four times.   Avocados are also high in fiber, vitamin C and K, and contain more potassium per weight than a banana.
Another thing that is cool about an avocado? It's actually a fruit and part of the berry family.

What is your favorite way of using an avocado?

I have been mixing an avocado with hard boiled eggs to make egg salad or with chicken to make chicken salad (without the mayo). I also love avocados in salads or spread on toast in place of butter.
And who doesn't love guacamole?

Sound Bite: Include an avocado in at least 2 meals this week. Next post will be much more exciting, although I am nerding out a bit about avocados too.
